The uncomfortable side of domestic violence.

This scene made me slightly uncomfortable. Even victims of domestic abuse have nicer skin than I do. Sigh.

So my good friend Jen brought this to my attention this afternoon and when it loaded, well I had no idea what to expect.

The site seems to be in Danish (what the hell do I know?) and it starts by loading a flash movie in which an attractive woman starts talking to you about this or that. She goes on to flip you off and then it looks like the conversation between you and her gets heated. At that point a hand appears and you are instructed to Hit the Bitch!, with either your mouse or webcam.

At first, not knowing what she had been saying,  I assumed this was some stupid college humor site or some advert for a movie in Denmark. Boy, was I wrong. It just got worse from there.

I started off by slapping my hand in front of the web cam, which would randomly register my hits and she would respond. For every successful blow, she became more and more bloodied and beaten up. As I realized this wasn’t a movie advertisement and that she probably didn’t deserve this, I instantly felt repulsed. I didn’t stop though, mainly because all of my life my mother has given me shit about not following through on anything and I desperately wanted to prove her wrong. Beat beat beat!

Near the end of the experience, the woman is on the floor crying and I felt like a pile of shit. Granted, none of it was real, but I still felt like I should have had a can of Papst Blue Ribbon in my head and an NRA membership card in the other. Whoever designed this flash site knew what they were doing, but remind me never to visit Denmark, they seem to have a problem with violence.

After all was said and done, you are alerted to the fact that beating a woman does not make you a pimp, instead it makes you a supreme chicken shit of a man. I tend to agree with the Danes on very little, but I will give them this one.

This is one hell of a public service announcement and it seems to be very successful. When I go to bed tonight and beat Chris, I am sure I will be overcome with guilt.
