Elderly man turns house into yule time shrine to dead wife

Ed Clark

I make crazy look like something out of quirky Indie movie.

Well folks, now that Thanksgiving is over Christmas can officially begin, that is, unless you’re one of those overzealous tards who put their tree up the day after Halloween.  I hate those kind of people.  They ruin everything.  They’re the same kind of people who buy toiletry travel kits for their kids and burn Harry Potter books.  So know this, if you are one of those kind of people, I hate you.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know me, I hail from San Antonio, Texas.  Ah yes Texas, the Lone Star state.  The state for good ol’ boys, real Americans and steers and queers.  Everything is big down in Texas and the holidays are no exception.  Down in San Antonio there is a wonderful, magical, festive display of pure oddity yet immense love and its in the form of Ed Clark’s Christmas House.  That’s right, Ed Clark’s Christmas House!  Located on the north east edge of San Antonio, Ed Clark’s Christmas House has become an annual tradition for locals, tourists, lovers of Christmas and fans of anything that is bizarre. (More pictures after the jump).

For years it’s been rumored that Ed Clark, the kind, old man who decorates his house from head to toe in Christmas decorations all year round, does so in memory of his wife who was killed by a drunk driver an unknown number of years ago.  Supposedly Ed’s wife’s favorite holiday was Christmas so to honor her spirit he blankets his house, his lawn, his station wagon, even an over sized sombrero he’s been seen wearing, with ornaments and lights and continues to add more decorations each year.  Ed’s collection of Christmas memorabilia includes a maze of Christmas lights, windup toys and robots across the entire front yard, room after room of Christmas displays and a variety of bows, streamers and ornaments hanging from every inch of the house’s ceiling.

I have personally seen the house being that its across from my old high school and I have to say, all sarcasm aside, it really is worth seeing.  It’s an incredibly sweet gesture of love.   Don’t get me wrong, if I was his neighbor I’d kill myself before allowing myself to slowly die from all the light’s radiation but still, it’s sweet.  To have someone that devoted to you or be someone who’s that devoted to someone else is, I think, a dream most people have whether they admit or not.

Crap, now I’m about to tear up.  Remember, real men don’t cry.  Real men don’t cry.  Real men repress their feelings, pushing them deep, deep down then they go on to become preachers or senators and then eventually they get caught playing footsie in a mens bathroom stall…that or they just drink.
