Nothing says tough like green tights and yellow dish gloves.
Kick-Ass, the latest film from director/producer Matthew Vaughn (Star Dust, Layer Cake, Snatch), follows average teenager, Dave Lizewski (British import Aaron Johnson) and his uber-sexless friends as they decide to take their obsession with comic books one step further and actually become superheroes themselves. Although powerless, their personas (such as Dave’s “Kick Ass”, McLovin’s “Red Mist” and even Nicolas Cage’s, “I have hair, I don’t have hair, oh wait no, I do have hair” father figure) seem to flesh out the character role call well enough for the most part.
Plan B Entertainment’s comic book adaptation, out next year, falls on the sore and bloody heels of Hollywood’s decade long love/hate relationship with comic books. (i.e. The Dark Knight vs. Frank Miller’s The Spirit…did anyone even see that one?!) Now, granted, this was only the teaser trailer and much can’t be said as of now, but it doesn’t look that bad. It could also end up as good as Mystery Men…ugh, I think I just had a small aneurysm remembering that pile of Ben Stiller dump.
