Roy E. Disney

I’m sad to say that earlier today, Roy E. Disney, the nephew of Walt Disney, died.  He was 79.  Roy, who lost his year long battle with stomach cancer early Wednesday in Newport Beach, CA, was an avid supported of Disney’s art of animation as well as the arts in general and played a powerful role behind the scenes of the Walt Disney Co.

Company president and chief executive Bob Iger said Disney was much more than a valued 56-year company veteran.

Company president and chief executive Bob Iger said in a statement, “Roy’s commitment to the art of animation was unparalleled and will always remain his personal legacy and one of his greatest contributions to Disney’s past, present and future,” and Don Hahn, an executive producer at the Disney movie studio, praised Roy for ushering in a new era after taking over the animation department in 1984.  The two worked together creating several winners such as “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King.”

“He took it under his wing, was a cheerleader, a coach, therapist,” Hahn said.

John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, also commended Disney.

“He put his heart and soul into preserving Disney’s legendary past, while helping to move the art of animation into the modern age by embracing new technology,” said Lasseter.

For those of you who may or may not remember, Roy played a pivotal role in the ousting of  two of The Walt Disney Company’s former chief executives.  In 1984, after deciding the company was being steered into the wrong direction, Roy Disney resigned from the company’s board or directors and led investors in a campaign against Walt Disne’y's son-in-law, Ron Miller.  After appointing the team of Michael Eisner and Frank Wells in charge, later becoming just Eisner (Wells passed away in 1994) and nearly 20 years later, Roy led shareholders in another revolt against Eisner which eventually forced him to step down giving way to Bob Iger.

Roy was described by friends and colleagues as a “gracious, humble gentleman” someone  who remained loyal to his principals and friends.  His legacy, despite never including a chance to run The Walt Disney Company himself, can be felt and seen within the company’s successes throughout the past 30 years.

An active philanthropist, Disney also supported the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, a school founded by his father and uncle, as well as pledged $10 million back in 2005 to establish the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Center at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank.

His absence will sorely be missed.

America’ own Media Queen, Oprah sat down for a warm and fuzzy, one-on-one interview with President Obama for her Christmas at the White House special which aired Sunday night on ABC.  Oprah, who fawns over Obama so much she looks like the sad, middle-aged white women who fawn over Oprah, asked President Obama what grade he would give himself for his first year in office and boy what an answer he gave her.  “A good, solid B-plus” he responded in his sophisticated yet chocolaty smooth manner.

Obama went on to explain how he figured he deserved this grade. “I think we have inherited the biggest set of challenges of any president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. We stabilized the economy… We are on our way out of Iraq. I think we’ve got the best possible plan for Afghanistan. We have reset our image around the world.  And, I think that we’re going to pass the most significant piece of social legislation since social security, and that’s health insurance for every American.”

Before practically climbing into his lap, Oprah calmly asked the President, why only B-plus?

“B-plus because of the things that are undone. Health care is not yet signed.” The president smiled, “if I get health care passed we tip into A minus.”

Improperly patting one’s self on the back is something that as human beings we are all guilty of.  I do it every time I manage not to shake the shit out of a crying child in a department store but come on now, really?  I personally still believe Obama has good intentions but he is far too pragmatic in his approach to everything.  If he intends to truly fix things, then a serious evaluation of the nations current problems is in order.

Both the Democrats and Republicans have proved time after time that they don’t care about representing the good of the nation.

10 % of Americans are unemployed.

DOMA is still intact.

We’re in the middle of two wars with no definitive end in sight and we’re about to send in more troops.

We were almost economically destroyed by a corrupt Wall Street banking system that is STILL fleecing Americans.

People are forced to self diagnose or die rather than go to the doctor.  Insurance companies have gotten so out of control, they’re now allowed to drop overweight newborns.

Our Banks have basically said, “fuck the public, where are our bonuses?”

We have a deficit in the trillions and are stuck in a sick, love/hate relationship with China.

The LGBT community is still held in the same regard as organizations like PETA, politically.

Everyday the globe is practically hurtling closer to The Day After Tomorrow.

Everything single one of these issues President Obama promised to take strong action against and yet here we are.

I know he has only been in office just under a year and it would be ludicrous to expect miracles overnight but I expect something.  I expect the promises made during the campaign not to be altered or forgotten.  I expect this so called “change I can believe in” to start kicking in and all the press tours, Vanity Fair covers and Oprah hosted, love fests in the world aren’t going to make me forget about those promises.

Even if Obama’s watered down version of health care reform passes, it won’t be the flagship of accomplishments he and his administration were hoping for.  The reform as it stands now doesn’t even come close to the true health care reform that the nation wants or needs.  Honestly, how bloody hard would it have been to clearly define the whole Public Option fiasco?  This poorly constructed, “bi-partisan,” Frankenstein monster of a health care bill will only be a sad reminder to the rest of the world and future generations that this President, who promised to bring about “change you can believe in”, obviously didn’t understand Webster’s definition for the words “change” or “believe.”

I have always enjoyed Keith Olbermann’s show, even if he has a penchant for the dramatics. Sometimes I want to jump through the TV and tell him, “Tone it down a bit. You are obviously an intelligent man, but your dramatics are making you look like a liberal Glenn Beck.”

God told me to work on my gay face. I've been busy.

This poor guy, life is just so hard for a bigot these days.

Peter Vadala was fired from his job at Brookestone for making homophobic remarks and is now claiming religious intolerance was his downfall. When confronted about the incident on Fox & Friends (whatever the hell that is) he made his case exponentially worse by having a poor understanding of the English language. He incriminated himself several times and admitted he called a fellow employee a deviant after informing her that God had asked him to alert her to his displeasure with her and her “lifestyle choice”. Oh and he had some crazy eyebrows too.

During the interview Peter laments being a victim of religious intolerance after he told a woman that he felt her lifestyle was immoral and that she shouldn’t speak about it in the work place. He makes several remarks about her “supposed” fiance, as if because he has a problem with her partner or homosexuality, the lesbians relationship is somehow no longer valid. What makes matters worse is that he feels the need to go and pray about it during his lunch break and there he decides that he has to confront the woman and tell her to discontinue talking about her life because it personally offends him.Whoops. The lesbian co workers response?

“She laughed in my face and told me to keep my opinions to myself and to go see the human resources department.”

After watching the clip, his cries of “so called” victimization are shut down by his “supposed” non gay looking face. Seriously though, major gay face.

When the host reads a statement from Peter’s former employer and asks him if he plans on bringing suit against the company, he launches into a poorly worded tirade in the hopes of coming across as the victim one last time.

Let’s try and reword this for those who may not be following fully.

Black Woman “I love my new husband, he is so great. Sure, things are tough sometimes because he is white, but we enjoy each other.”

Peter “I went to the church and prayed and god told me to tell you that your lifestyle choice is a sin and your “so called” husband is a perversity to god.

Black Woman “That is incredibly racist and offensive and I am pretty sure this company does not tolerate that kind of language.”

Peter “No, as a Christian I can be intolerant of whomever I want as long as I claim religious freedom. You should take the day off, nigger.”

Hopefully that cleared up any misconceptions we had. In short, this pencil neck got everything he deserved.

Fox no longer allows people to embed their clips, mainly because they do such a horrible job at being “fair and balanced” that they get slammed all over the Internet and they are tired of being the butt of everyone’s joke. However, you can click here to watch the clip.

Pay close attention to the “questions” that are placed in the lower 1/3 of the screen. Things like ‘freedom under fire?” or “Religious expulsion?” don’t really read as fair and balanced, especially considering none of them say anything along the lines of, “grown man acts like jackass and gets what he deserves?”

Fox News, you really do lower the bar on everything.
