If you have been watching the television, I am sure you have seen the misleading proposition ads being blasted over the magic cable wires. One of the most dishonest and disingenuous ads is from PG&E themselves, having the balls to mask a monopolistic power grab as a chance for voters to “vote” on what money their government spends. In actuality, the bill would require a 2/3rds vote in order for local governments to purchase their own renewable energy or create public power districts with tax payer money. This bill was placed on the ballot by PG&E and is designed to keep them in power above all else. If you have forgotten the escapades of PG&E, try to recall the nightmare of corruption and incompetence that caused wandering black outs in the state for several months at a time.
It is usually easy to figure out which propositions are good or bad. If the California Chamber of Commerce supports the bill, vote against it.

Now, don’t correct me if I’m wrong, but this new law would be a lot like carrying your ID with you at all times, right? From what I can tell, I would liken it to a bartender carding someone at the bar when they’ve already been carded at the door. Yes, it’s a hassle, but at the end of the day it should take just a few additional moments. The reason the bartender is carding you a second time is because you look like you are breaking a law (buying alcohol under 21 years of age.) Just don’t be caught without your papers. “I left my green card in my other wallet” won’t really cover your ass in this situation.
Now, I for one am fine with this law in this context. However, the problem is that this matter is not as simple as “you look too young.” It’s a matter of “you look like a wetback.” There really is no nice way to put it because that’s the sort of door this opens. It’s a lot like the “at-random” bag searches at the airports after 9/11. Anytime they were called in, Citizens of Middle-Eastern descent felt that they were being targeted for acts of violence done by people of their same ethnic background… and in some ways, they were.
I am American. I come from a family of Mexican descent … and have never even actually been to Mexico. I would have no qualms about being asked for my papers if they were trying to target Illegal Mexicans in a Border State. I just think that seems like more work for them than it’s worth.
What worries me personally is that there are those out there that hate just to hate. These people are called racists, sexists, homophobes, etc., and I can think of a few other things to call them. I have experienced my share of racism and profiling: from having to sneak around with a girl I was dating back in high school because her parents didn’t want her to date me because I’m “Mexican” to surprising people who don’t know me with my ability to read and write big words… in English.
I just don’t want to be out walking down a street with a bag of oranges and suddenly get pulled up alongside by a pick-up truck full of rednecks who have decided that this is a good day to have gotten boozed up and “Help Our Country” by beating the crap out of me. If this can be avoided… that would be awesome. Yay for not bleeding!
To those who may be flirting with this idea, to assist you in spotting Me and other Mexicans, I’ve provided the following checklist:
I hope this helps!

ALIPAC president William Gheen, goes on a mindless and childish tirade against fictitious boogey men and homosexual blackmail, while fumbling over his own words in front of a rabidly cheering crowd. Sure, they don’t know what they are talking about, they have no idea how big these problems are, but they are sure about one thing! They love proclaiming their fondness for the Constitution and espousing all of it’s many wonders, unless of course those constitutional rights extend to foreign leaders, soldiers or accused criminals. Everyone knows that the constitution only applies to REAL Americans. Which is just code for white Christians and Republicans.
I have no idea what is going on with these people, but they are eating themselves alive. All of this anti government, anti tax nonsense is a cover up for a lack of knowledge. It is a telling sign of intelligence, when the only thing you can bring to the table is the ability to blame everyone else, but yourself, for the problems of the world.
It’s the Mexicans, it’s the gays, it’s the liberals, it’s the government!
Everyone with half a brain knows who the real enemy here is.
This person has spent their entire life destroying the Constitution, ripping apart the fabric of our Democracy and used inflammatory words to incite violence and murder.
This person is a war criminal and a liar, with the blood of countless innocents on their hands.
They have single handedly wire tapped innocent Americans and held their enemies without cause.
This person is the only true threat to our freedom.
Julia Stiles – the people’s enemy.

A California advisory board has convened and is building the framework for the regulation of the the porn industry. For years, many have claimed the porn industry has run rampant with dangerous practices and is long overdue for regulatory oversight. I am in favor of oversight, if it is necessary. Mandatory STD testing and proper protection for employees and performers should be enacted, in regards to full acknowledgment of their employers expectations and their own responsibility. However, there are open calls to create a law forcing all adult film actors to wear protection in their films. The logic is that people watch bareback porn and thus engage in bareback sex, because watching a video effectively removes all personal responsibility.
I understand that HIV rates are no longer shrinking and the public in general has a blase attitude towards the disease, but to assume people engage in bareback sex because of a video and not a lack of personal control is faulty and lazy reasoning. People engage in unprotected sex because it feels much better than protected sex, period. I have never met a gay men who openly stated, “I love the feel of joyless sex and condoms are the bees knees! However, I really want to be popular and when I see whores on tv do it unprotected, it makes me want to fit in. I really desire popularity above my personal health.” It is one thing to regulate STD testing and another to strip the public of yet another expectation of personal responsibility. If you engage in risky behavior, you are more than aware of the risks associated with that choice and it would be childish to blame pornography for your own short comings.
We demand so little of our populace as it is and the more we continue to treat them like children, the more we will have to step up and protect them from themselves. HIV and AIDS are very serious issues that require proper dissemination of information and a well informed community, but to claim that bareback sex makes one act without will is the same as claiming that Halo causes children to become violent. I happen to be a fan of pornography and it has kept me out of trouble through out my life, but I have no real interest in whether or not actors wear condoms. The problem with this comes down to creating another path towards a nanny state in which we remove the public from the realm of personal responsibility. Grown adults are responsible for their own lives and their own action Us.ntil we demand more of our public, they will continue to find a scapegoat for their own failures.
How do you feel about this? Are you in favor of this law? If so, why?

Kelsey Grammer has signed on as the spokesperson for The Right Network, a right leaning news network that claims to be in support of unbiased media and accountability. Which is rather ironic, as the name itself lends one to see the true intentions of the project. This is similar to someone starting a non partisan think tank and calling it, “Suck it Liberals, we beat off to Ronald Reagan’s ghost.” all while espousing the virtues of being unbiased. In other words, Fox News will have more company in crazy town with the bastard child of stupidity and white flight.
I can only assume this fall jarred loose the section of his brain that is responsible for the perception of irony.
Based on the logic of the folks behind these views, because the word “right” can mean “correct”, their views must be correct as they are right leaning. Point one for the literalistic, even a turd can float.

I came across this video while reading Joe.My.God today and it was so hilariously succinct in portraying these people that it was almost overdone. The very mention of factual evidence causes these people to go into a mind numbing phase of non existence. It is one thing to disagree with a policy and another to blatantly disregard factual evidence in exchange for the feeling something gives you. To watch these Luddites complain about their taxes, while they are trying desperately to ignore the fact that they pay less this year, is like watching a child get caught in a lie and try and get out of it by pretending to choke to death.
Did anyone else do that as a kid? “Justice, did you cut off your sisters bangs?… Answer me right now!… Oh for fucks sake, it’s not going to work this time, you don’t have anything in your mouth. You know, I have never struck a child and I have always been proud of that, but I am willing to be proud of something else today.”
At one point one corrects the journalist by saying, “A tax cut is not the same as a tax credit.” This is absolutely correct, as they are different words for a reason. However, the fact still remains that this bagger still pays less taxes than he did last year, thus negating the entire purpose of the event. It is always interesting watching the dumbing down of America, especially when they are filled with nothing but contradictory talking points. Obama is a socialist and a communist as much as he is a human being and an Orca. The point being that you can be one or the other, but not both, much like a tax cut can not be a tax credit, but a redneck can be ill informed and still assume he is well versed in the bullshit he subscribes to.
All of this comes down to one simple thing. These crackers are pissed that a nigger is in the White House.

The National Organization for Marriage, which is ironically against all forms of marriage but heterosexual ones, has announced that their President Maggie Gallagher will be stepping down and replaced by executive director Brian Brown. Maggie will be staying on a special executive committee that will allow her to continue to make inflammatory and factual incorrect accusations against homosexuals and anyone else she personally dislikes. On this committee, we can assume she will continue to rail against gay relationships of any kind as well as lambast proponents of abortion, sex education and common sense. Mrs. Gallagher was a former unwed mother before she founded NOM. Thankfully she realized her personal mistakes and direct assaults on her own moral views had no impact on her ability to judge others, all while holding a degree in (wait for it) religious studies.
Brian has not only “overseen” — he has instigated and created (under God) NOM’s incredible growth in less than three years: from one donor to 35,000, from no activists to over 500,000, from zero public profile to the recent public acknowledgment by the Washington Post that NOM has emerged as the “pre-eminent national organization fighting the legalization of same-sex marriage.” In less than three years, NOM has compiled an incredible record of victories (forging coalitions and working with many others who also deserve the credit, we never forget): putting Prop 8 on the ballot in California, overturning gay marriage in Maine, blocking gay marriage bills in New York and New Jersey, fighting in court to protect marriage activists from legal harassment, helping turn “scozzfava” into a verb. (To “scozzfava” a politician is to inform GOP primary voters that he or she is pro-gay marriage).
I contact a professor of Unicorn studies and Shamrock magic, but have yet to hear their views on this policy change. Hopefully their intense educational fortitude will shine further light on this shake up.

This is a pretty interesting study and puts some questions forward that I have often wondered myself. If there is a genetic disposition to being traditionally selfish with ones resources, then why is it that typically liberal people tend to buck the genetic trend and reach out to strangers? According to the study, the more liberal you consider yourself, the higher your IQ, especially when compared to the conservative direction. It also addresses the concerns of many conservatives who claim that liberals control the media and most major entertainment and financial jobs. Without making any qualms about it, the author openly states this perceived paranoia to be true, as liberals, having a higher IQ, tend to get better paying jobs in which they are in control. It’s a good read if you take the time and you may leave with a different view of political influence on the mind.
Read the study after the jump.
